SUSE Package Hub is an official "extension" to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server that is based on the packages built in the openSUSE:Backports project. It is a mirror of the repositories provided by the openSUSE build service with enhancements to make it integrate seemlessly with the SUSE Customer Center and standard SUSE Enterprise content delivery services. That makes SUSE Package Hub as easy to use as any other SUSE extension to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
The openSUSE Build Service is an instance of the Open Build Service where anyone can build packages for just about any distribution. The openSUSE com- munity uses that build service for building the openSUSE Tumbleweed and Leap distributions.
In addition to openSUSE distribution packages, there are many projects in the build service that are building packages for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server products. The openSUSE:Backports project is a special project created specifically for building and maintaining packages for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in a way that is best suited for customer use.
After Closing the Leap Gap` and the binary compatiblity between SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and the openSUSE Leap distrobution, the openSUSE:Backports project became essentially the common project for maintaining packages for the SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE Leap releases.o
Not only are the packages in the openSUSE:Backports project built in the same build service as the opeonSUSE distribution, but the packages are derived from the exact revisions maintained in the openSUSE distributions. This brings the quality control and attention given to packages maintained by the openSUSE community to these packages built for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
